Line of Fire

En algún momento parecía que había fuego, se podría considerar que hubo un pequeño «incendio» o lo que se conoce como fuego cruzado. Algunos conspiraban, engañaban y confabulaban. Fue justo hace diez años cuando sufrí un episodio desagradable en mi trabajo que, aunque en cierta manera temía que pasaría, me ayudó a reafirmar cosas, a aprender otras y a conocer mejor a ciertos personajes mientras me dedicaba a defender a mi gente y mis principios y, pese a todo lo que acontecía, poder ir a dormir con la conciencia tranquila.

A los entrenadores y directores deportivos nos gusta rodearnos de personas en las que se pueda confiar, de gente que intenta cumplir con sus obligaciones y no defrauda la confianza depositada en ellos, al menos intencionadamente. Al ser una posición desde la que nos entusiasma ayudar y donde tenemos que poner el bien colectivo por delante del nuestro, solamente queremos hacerlo con la tranquilidad de que no nos mientan los que tenemos alrededor.

También fue hace diez años cuando Junip publicaba esta hermosa canción. Según uno de sus compositores, José González, «Line of Fire» habla de «crecer y asumir la responsabilidad en ese momento en que, de repente, tu vida cambia, estás en una nueva situación, tus ideales son desafiados y tienes que pensar las cosas desde un nuevo ángulo». Como a muchos niños, esas cosas verdes redondas no me gustaban nada. En alguna ocasión debí alargar tanto el rato de la comida que prácticamente se juntó con la hora de la merienda. Para reconocerme la hazaña, uno de los años en que Sus Majestades Los Reyes Magos nos visitaban, me obsequiaron con un fantástico camión sobre el que habían dejado una lata de guisantes.

Pese a tener un guisante como protagonista, el videoclip de hoy es uno de los más originales que he visto, la canción engancha y la letra tiene mucho significado. Los artífices del éxito son la banda barcelonesa Love Of Lesbian https://loveoflesbianband.com/, quienes empezaron cantando en inglés pero lograron tener mejores críticas cuando pasaron a cantar en castellano. Con Enric Montefusco comparten el origen barcelonés, el mencionado cambio de idioma e incluso uno de los integrantes de la banda participó también en Standstill.

En la actualidad es un grupo de música con mucho éxito. Suelen llenar salas de conciertos incluso varios días consecutivos. Aunque tengo mis temas favoritos, especialmente uno, os recomiendo que reviséis cualquier álbum de Love of Lesbian y encontréis los vuestros.

Finalmente decidí publicar una vez por semana. En principio durante el fin de semana. To recognise my feat, one of the years The Three Kings (the Three Wise Men) visited us, they gave me a fantastic toy truck with a can of peas over it.

Despite having a pea on the main role, today’s music video is one of the most original ones I have ever seen, the song gets you hooked on it and the lyrics have a lot of meaning. The architects of the success are the members of a music group from Barcelona called Love Of Lesbian https://loveoflesbianband.com/, who started singing in English but managed to get better reviews when they started singing in Spanish. They have some common aspects with Enric Montefusco: they are from Barcelona, they both changed the language from English to Spanish and even one of the members of Love of Lesbian participated in Standstill music band.

Quizá por ser Hawaiano o por un fuerte accidente que sufrió practicando surf, parece tomarse las cosas con calma y nos entretiene con un pop ligero y refrescante.

El videoclip de hoy es una buena muestra de ese carácter. Los que tenéis hijos aprovechad para verlo con ellos, creo que les gustará. Épico. A mí me lo parece. Y gracias a canciones así poder ser consciente de todo lo que hay detrás de una gran canción. Que el compositor la empiece a tararear en su mente antes de tocar los primeros acordes, que la comparta y mejore con sus compañeros de banda y productores y, en este caso, que se junten con decenas de músicos para darle cientos de detalles extra. Al ver el videoclip de hoy he recordado esa sensación que tenía cuando escuchaba una canción una y otra vez y podía ir descubriendo a los instrumentos presentándose.

No sólo eso. Todos los años y esfuerzos que han dedicado los músicos que vemos en ese video para poder llegar a tocar en una gran orquesta tiene mucho mérito. Muchos tendréis algún conocido que haya estudiado música y tenga la suerte de haberlo convertido en su profesión, entonces sabréis de qué hablo. Magnificent. I think it is. And thanks to songs like that, we can be aware of everything behind a great song. The composer humming it in his mind before playing the first chords, sharing and improving the song with his bandmates and producers and, in this case, playing it with dozens of musicians in order to provide hundreds of extra details. Ayer me escribió una amiga de la infancia para decirme que le había gustado la elección de Side, de Travis. Recuerdo que en el colegio ya compartíamos música, y he pensado que la canción de hoy también la recordará ella y varios compañeros de clase de aquella época.

La educación primaria de esos años se llamaba EGB -Educación General Básica-. Mi hermano siempre me ha parecido muy culto y debe pensar que la mía fue muy básica… En realidad, después supe que también se la conocía por GGB -fonéticamente ”jejebé”- por eso de que estábamos de cachondeo demasiado a menudo. Entre los apodos -Peri, Menkio, Reme, Ele…-, las trastadas en clase, los partidos en el patio, las triquiñuelas en el comedor, etc, etc., se nos hizo muy corto. Eso sí, éramos una piña.

Me gustó que en la clase de mi hijo también les inculcaban ese sentimiento grupal, de respeto y de ayuda. Y estos días está saliendo a relucir con fuerza todo eso. Así mismo, la canción esta inspirada en la Tregua de Navidad, un breve alto el fuego no oficial entre las tropas alemanas y las del Imperio británico durante la Primera Guerra Mundial, en la Navidad del 1914. Lo he leído ahora, no recuerdo haberlo aprendido durante la GGB.

Un día, en un descanso entre clases más largo de lo habitual, mis compañeros de curso me pidieron que les enseñara a hacer un avión de papel. Les salió perfecto, llegaron casi todos sus aviones hasta el patio que se veía desde la ventana de la clase, la misma que el profesor tenía detrás de su asiento y desde el cual pudo ver “nuestra obra”. Preguntó quién fue el artista, me señalaron y acabé recogiéndolos todos. No me perdí ahí la clase de historia de la Primera Guerra Mundial porque fue con el profesor de matemáticas.

La canción original de The Farm se ha usado en varias ocasiones como himno, especialmente en eventos futbolísticos. El videoclip es algo antiguo y no muy entretenido, para las audiencias infantiles y futboleras añadiré a mitad del texto en inglés la versión que se hizo con motivo del Mundial de fútbol de la FIFA del 2006. Al final del texto en inglés también encontraréis la versión del videoclip para EEUU. Si vais a ver solamente uno ese me parece el más divertido de los 3.

No es casualidad que canciones así se usen para eso. Los valores de pertenencia al grupo, de respeto, de esfuerzo, de compañerismo y un largo etcétera, van estrechamente ligados al mundo del deporte. Buen ejemplo de ello lo dan muchos deportistas. Hoy me ha alegrado ver al futbolista del FC Barcelona Sergio Busquets en una acción con la Alcántara Family Foundation https://alcantarafoundation.com/ y UNICEF https://www.unicef.org/es. Lo ha hecho muy bien, tenemos que poner en valor el esfuerzo que hacen poniéndose ante una cámara para hacer algo a lo que no están tan habituados.

De momento no me limito a subir un enlace de un vídeo de Youtube y que lo mire quien quiera. Podría hacer un listado de canciones por orden alfabético o cronológico y no complicarlo más. En cambio, prefiero buscar algo con qué introducir cada canción y luego que cada uno decida si quiere ver el videoclip que dejo al final de cada entrada del blog. Yo siempre os recomiendo que lo hagáis y, a poder ser, con el volumen bien fuerte. Pero es solamente una recomendación. Como decía un profesor de literatura catalana que tuve en el bachillerato “si queréis obligar, dejadles libres”.

La libertad es algo que debe ser difícil de gestionar con los hijos, y más cuando ves las noticias.
